Job Summary:
The [VP/Director of Product & Technology] will be responsible for leading the company’s technological vision and strategy while driving innovation, customer engagement, and R&D initiatives. This role requires deep technical expertise, customer interaction skills, and the ability to align business strategies with technological advancements. The [VP/Director of Product & Technology] will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including sales and engineering teams, factory operations, and customers, to ensure the company’s technology and capabilities meet market demands and maintain a competitive edge.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer-Specific Technical Support
Engage in field calls and meetings to discuss technical capabilities related to specific designs.
Collaborate with customer engineering teams to evaluate design options and capabilities.
Review data and conduct stack-up analysis to ensure design accuracy.
Generate and analyze Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reports and oversee data processing with factory teams.
Partner with Sales to address technical attributes and ensure seamless customer engagement.
Sales and Field Applications Engineering (“FAE”) Support
Address technology-related queries and challenges related to capabilities and quality.
Provide training sessions and presentations on company technology and strategic initiatives.
Assist in evaluating customer technology needs and translating them into factory requirements.
Customer Interaction and Engagement
Deliver updates and presentations on R&D activities.
Participate in customer meetings addressing quality issues and strategic business updates.
Conduct educational “Lunch and Learn” sessions for customers and internal teams.
Technical Presentations
Develop and deliver presentations on corporate overview, technology roadmap, and materials.
Design and maintain standard presentation templates and formats.
Factory Capabilities Management
Document and maintain an up-to-date repository of factory capabilities.
Create and distribute handouts and presentations for both internal teams and customers.
Material Strategy Development
Collaborate with factories on material strategy and planning.
Provide technical content and recommendations for Sales teams.
Engage with suppliers to explore new materials and innovations.
Assist Sales in identifying alternative material options.
Digital & Website Management
Develop and oversee content for internal, public, and FAE SharePoint sites.
Coordinate with IT and leadership on website updates and redesigns.
Strategic Planning & Execution
Plan and prepare for global and team meetings.
Engage with factory teams to discuss customer interactions and business needs.
Review and provide input on factory plans and strategy alignment.
Administrative Responsibilities
Review and approve Technical Review Questionnaires (TRQ) and Expense (EXP) requests.
Assess travel requests for FAE members to validate ROI.
Evaluate budget requirements and ensure proper allocation.
Analyze monthly KPI reports and communicate insights.
Provide quarterly bonus updates and communicate performance evaluations.
Deliver bi-weekly financial closure updates for the FAE team.
Share updates with leadership regarding important matters and activities.
Research & Development (R&D) Oversight
Collaborate with R&D teams to align activities with customer expectations and innovation objectives.
Address challenges between capability requirements, staffing, and project timelines.
Intellectual Property (IP) & Patent Management
Work closely with legal teams to facilitate IP filings and patent applications.
Review and refine patent application content before submission.
Manage quarterly patent bonus updates and payouts.
Assess patent maintenance fees and determine their relevance based on technology strategy.
Maintain and update the company’s patent database.
Collect and organize year-end China patent details for reporting and compliance.
Additional Responsibilities
Collaborate with the CME team on DFM and stack-up automation improvements.
Facilitate CME updates and training sessions with FAE team support.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
15+ years of experience in technology leadership, engineering, or product development within the manufacturing or electronics industry.
Strong technical expertise in materials, design engineering, and manufacturing processes.
Experience in customer-facing roles with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
Proven track record of managing R&D and technology roadmaps.
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive strategic alignment.
Willingness to travel as required for customer engagements and factory visits.
